BUSL-1.1 · change date 2030-10-12 → MIT ·raw license on GitHub
01 The short version
Including production. Charities, schools, public research, and government agencies all count as noncommercial.
For non-production use, per the standard BUSL grant.
Non-production use. Keep the license and attribution intact.
Any commercial use — including internal business use — needs a separate written license from the licensor.
On 2030-10-12 (or 4 years after each version's first public release, whichever comes first) that version becomes MIT.
02 Why BUSL?
BUSL-1.1 keeps the source open and the playing field honest: you can read every rule, audit the regexes, fork it, and run it — as long as you're not a business building on it. That's the line. Individuals, charities, schools, researchers, and governments pay nothing, forever.
Businesses get the same source and the same scanner — under a commercial license that keeps development funded. If you're unsure which side of the line you're on, ask: [email protected].
03 The change date
Every version converts. On 2030-10-12 — or four years after any given version's first public release, whichever comes first — that version drops BUSL and becomes available under the MIT license. No carve-outs expire, nothing is revoked. The code always ends up open source.
